August 23, 2018 We went to HOLLYWOOD (Alabama)
This was the perfect day for riding so ten bikes left Cullman and headed for HOLLYWOOD (Alabama). Enjoying the ride today were: Ronny&Judy, Jerry&Charlotte, Greg&Karen, Sheila, JR, Charlie, Bobby, Joel, Terry and Ronnie T. Of course we rode the back roads so that we could see the beautiful countryside. We never know what other sights we might come across. Today I even saw a dog slowly walking across the front porch of a house and there was a chicken following right behind him. I guess they were "best friends"! We ate lunch at the Mud Creek BBQ Restaurant: catfish strips, barbecue, shrimp, fries, baked potatoes and coleslaw. Everything was served quickly and was delicious! This was our first time at this restaurant but it is definitely on our "go back to " list. After checking out the grounds around the restaurant we loaded up for more fun on this beautiful day. We stopped by the "Rock Zoo" on CR32 in Fackler, AL. and our favorite rock quarry house in Guntersville. To end the day on a sweet note, we made a visit to the Sonic in Arab. Retirement is wonderful!
August 4, 2018 The Outpost in the Pickwick Dam area of TN
A beautiful Saturday plus ten bikes (14 friends) adds up to us riding to The Outpost at Pickwick Dam for lunch! This is a beautiful and interesting place with awesome food. EVERYTHING is always delicious! We are blessed to have these precious friends to make memories with.
July 25, 2018 Middle of Nowhere
Our retired group is growing. We had 13 riders on this middle of the week ride to the "middle of nowhere"! We thought we had been to the middle of nowhere before but this time we have proof! We stopped for lunch at the Old Delina Country Store in Delina, Tn which claims to be in the "middle of nowhere". It is actually painted on the wall of the building which is an OLD service station, general store transformed into a restaurant. The burgers, homemade fried pies and homemade ice cream were all delicious! It took a little while for all of us to get our food but we didn't mind. After all, we did just barge in on them right at lunchtime. This waiting time gave us a chance to explore the building and all of the vintage items inside. We enjoyed meeting Larry (the owner) who kept us entertained and laughing. On almost every stop that we made someone wanted to know where we were from. Everyone that we met was very friendly which is not unusual on our rides. Can't wait to see where our next adventure takes us.
Thanks to Karen for allowing me to post some of her pictures.
July 14, 2018 Sunny Days on Shady Roads
The weather and the older guys have not been getting along so we haven't got to ride as much this year. Most of them have been suffering from symptoms of PMS (Parked Motorcycle Syndrome)! We (8 bikers and 3 passengers) decided that today was the day that we were going to take a morning ride and try to get back inside with the air conditioning before it got too hot or a thunderstorm formed. We rode on some shady roads near home and ate at Son's Barbecue which is one of our new favorite restaurants! It was nice to get out and enjoy spending the morning with our good friends. Looking forward to riding again soon. Hope you enjoy these random pictures of our ride!
April 27-29, 2018 "The FINALLY Trip"
We had planned to leave on Thursday, April 26th on a four day trip BUT the weather didn't co-operate on the first day so we decided to change it to three days. Ed tweaked the route and when we met at Burger King on Friday morning he had decided to name the trip "Finally" (meaning we were finally getting to go)! There were 6 bikes with 10 riders. We also had two ladies that followed us in a vehicle and fed us cookies the whole trip! On the first day we drove through South Pittsburg and crossed the Shelby Rhinehart Bridge over the Tennessee River. We rode past Nickajack Lake. Some of us saw the Flying Saucer House on Signal Mountain - others were too busy driving the curvy road. Lunch was at Amigos Mexican Restaurant. On this day we saw lots of curves, scenic overlooks and beautiful homeplaces. We stopped for the night in Clinton,Tn and ate our evening meal at the Golden Girls Restaurant. The next morning after our complimentary hotel breakfast we bundled up and headed out to see more curves, some awesome countryside and beautiful homeplaces. I noticed that we didn't see as many plowed fields as we usually do. This was more hilly country with cattle farms. Ed had planned to eat lunch at Better Burger but it was closed so we ate at the Patio Drive In in Pennington, VA. On this day we rode The Original Thunder Road and we rode through a looooong tunnel somewhere along the way. We ate at Coal Creek Smokehouse BBq and spent the night in good ole Rocky Top, TN. We had fun hanging out together at the gazebo. Some of us played on the playground and some of us found out that we are not as smart as we thought we were when it comes to trivia! On Sunday morning we shivered while we rode some more curvy roads and saw more hilly cattle farms. We stopped after riding just a short while to get something warm to eat and drink for breakfast and by lunchtime we were in Dunlap,Tn where we ate "comfort food" at the Dunlap Restaurant. Our last stop on the trip was Dairy Queen in Guntersville where we got our sweet treats and parting hugs from everyone. I hope it is warmer on our next ride. All of this bundling up makes me tired!!! Look forward to seeing you then!
April 21, 2018 ---- Gone Fishing Again
We decided that today would be a good day to "go fishing" again. So seven bikes left Burger King in Cullman and headed to Granny Fish's House in Wartrace, TN. Terry's mouth had watered all night just thinking about those frog legs! :) Bill had a huge pile of onion rings. Charlie and Linda had the biggest hamburger steaks that I had ever seen. Karen said she knew it was a fish place but she got chicken.I think the rest of us (Tim, Greg, Sheila, Ronny & Judy) ate fish. Everyone agreed that the food was delicious as always and the HUSHPUPPIES - are the best! (But shhhhhh! Don't tell Charlotte because she didn't get to go.) Sorry, I didn't take any pictures of the food but I DID bring home a little plant that I hope is a peony and NOT poison oak! So far, so good!!! We missed the regulars that weren't with us today but enjoyed the day making memories with the ones that were. We are truly blessed!
March 18, 2018 ---Sunday Afternoon
What a great turnout for a Sunday afternoon ride! Twelve bikes (16 riders) showed up at Burger King in Cullman to enjoy the day riding. I didn't know about half of the people so I will not even try to list names. New people are not strangers - they are just friends that we haven't met yet! We basically just rode around looking at scenery and enjoying the beautiful weather. Making memories - that's what it is all about!
Thanks to Mike Doss for sharing his pictures.
