November 5 & 6, 2017 Leaf Ride...
There were seven bikes on this beautiful leaf ride. JR, Bobby and Bill headed back home after lunch at the Junkyard Dog Steakhouse in Hohenwald, TN. Ronny/Judy, Charlie/Linda, Jerry/Charlotte and Ronnie Todd rode all the way to the north end of the Natchez Trace Parkway and spent the night in Dickson, TN before going home on rainy Monday. Even with the rain, it was a great trip. Loved the beautiful colors and the falling leaves.
October 21, 2017 Granny Fishes House in Wartrace, TN
Ten bikes left Bojangles in Cullman this morning headed to Granny Fishes House in Wartrace, TN. Those riding were Ronny/Judy, Charlie/Linda, Greg/Karen, JR/DeAnn, Jerry/Charlotte, Bill, Bobby, Buel, Terry and David. We were all excited to have Charles and Sheila join the ride in Guntersville. It was quite chilly in the morning but warmed up nicely during the day. I would say it was the perfect day for a ride. We didn't see much in the way of colorful Autumn leaves but Granny Fishes House was fully decorated for Halloween. The food was delicious as usual. Granny Fishes never disappoints us. Great day with our friends. All we have to do now, is figure out where to go next time...
September 28, 29 & 30, 2017 Our Natchez Trip
Five bikes touched four states on this quick trip. Those along for the ride were: Ronny/Judy, Jerry/Charlotte, Charlie/Linda, JR/DeAnn and Ronnie. On the first day we stopped in Starkville, MS at Harvey's for lunch. We entered the Natchez Trace Parkway at Kosciusko, MS and spent the night in Ridgeland, MS. We actually walked to Burgers & Blues for dinner where I had "Fried Banana Pudding". The second day we got back on the Parkway and rode to the end at Natchez, MS where we ate lunch at the Magnolia Grill. After lunch we crossed the river into Louisiana and stopped at a parts store to replace a dead battery. Back on the road again we rode and rode through cotton country with some of the largest cotton fields we had ever seen in Louisiana and Arkansas. Then we crossed over the river again, back into MS. Dinner at Shoney's was not that great but lots of fun (guess you just had to be there)! HA...On Saturday morning we headed out with Proffitt's Porch in Columbus, MS as our target for lunch. We saw many interesting things on this trip and had lots of laughs. Always an enjoyable time when we get together with our friends.
September 2, 2017 Mt. Pleasant, TN
It was a beautiful Saturday so we thought "Let's ride to Mt. Pleasant, TN. That is always a pretty ride and we haven't been there for awhile." So nine bikes left Bojangles looking forward to spending an enjoyable day with our friends. Those riding were: Ronny &Judy, JR & DeAnn, Moochie & Toni, Jerry & Charlotte, Craig & Donna, Ron & Rillis, Ed, Bill and Greg. We enjoyed a delicious lunch at the Mt. Pleasant Grille. After lunch we plundered through the Little Free Library in Monument Park and found a Geo Cache. Monument Park is a beautiful place to sit and relax. We haven't ridden as much this summer because it has been raining or too hot so it was nice to get to see and visit with everyone. We had a great day with no problems. Looking forward to the next ride. Hmmm, wonder where the destination will be? Any suggestions?
August 21 - 22, 2017 TOTAL Eclipse in Spencer, TN
Just a few of us decided to ride almost 200 miles to experience TOTALITY of the Eclipse. It was well worth the trip. It was AMAZING! There was only four bikes - Ronny & Judy, Charlie & Linda, Ronnie Todd and David. We didn't want to go where the big crowds were and we wanted to avoid a lot of traffic so Ronny did his research and decided on the small town of Spencer, TN. It was perfect! We didn't get into any heavy traffic and had a great ride there. We arrived at the perfect time to enjoy lunch at the only little restaurant in town - Old Times Cafe. The food was very good and the people who worked there were wonderful - very friendly and made us feel at home. We were able to watch the eclipse from a pavilion at the fairgrounds near the cafe. There was only one other man there and he let us crash his party. :) We kept putting on our eclipse glasses and looking at the sun and then we would sit on the bleachers and talk for a little while until time to take another look. We were getting worried because the clouds were building. The TOTALITY kind of sneaked up on us and that is one thing that made it so amazing. When it was over and our goosebumps had settled we made our way to Monterey, TN where we spent the night at the Bethel Inn which is one of our favorite places to stay. That night we ate some of the best pizza ever from the Pizza Box. The hotel clerk let us eat in the lobby breakfast area. Since it was just a small group we enjoyed sitting at the same table and visiting while we ate. If you ever have the oppurtunity to witness a TOTAL eclipse, be sure to take it. It is undescribeable. You just had to be there!
April 28, 29 &30, 2017
Friday, April 28, 2017 eleven bikes set out on a 3 day adventure. Ed said that he planned to call this trip "The Curvy Road Trip". Wonder why? Those who followed him were: Moochie, Josh, Roger, Greg, Mike, Terry, Jerry & Charlotte, JR & DeAnn, Charles & Sheila and Ronny & Judy. On Friday the group made their way to Monterey, TN stopping at Simply Southern Restaurant in Pelham, TN for lunch and seeing some interesting sights along the way including "Greeter Falls". Of course, some of us old folks didn't make the whole 1/2 mile trek to the falls so we're thankful for the pictures from the ones who did. We were saddened to find out that "Rocky Pop's" restaurant had closed. That has always been a highlight of our Monterey trips but "Pop's" grandson was working at the hotel where we always stay and he caught us up on Pop's "tinkering". So since his restaurant was closed, the evening consisted of dinner at Burger King and visiting beside the indoor pool.
On Saturday morning, Ronny and Judy cut their trip short and headed home. Because of this, I can't give you details of the next two days but thanks to Charlotte, DeAnn and Mike - there are some pictures to share. Bad weather moved in on Sunday, but most of the riders made it home before the rain hit! Looking forward to next time...
Saturday, April 1, 2017
We "Live to Ride & Ride to Eat" so today we decided to ride to Fayetteville, TN to eat at Marvin's Family Restaurant. We had 15 hungry people on 10 bikes: Ronny, Judy, Charlie, Linda, Jerry, Charlotte, JR, DeAnn, Greg, Karen, Charles, Sheila, Buford, Tim and David. Of course we didn't ride straight to the restaurant - we took the long way around so we could enjoy the beautiful countryside, old houses and barns. We expected a warmer morning but instead it just felt colder and colder. Just when we wondered if it was going to start snowing we reached the restaurant. It was everything that we had heard about. A wide variety of "Southern Comfort" food on the buffet. Everything was delicious! Our waitress was wonderful. She said she had been a waitress for 30 years and loved her job. We could tell! After lunch while we were getting our coats on preparing for the ride home, a man parked beside our bikes. He got out of his car, greeted us and said "Thank you folks from Alabama for coming to spend your money in our state of TN." I thanked him for TN feeding us such delicious food! It amazes me that so many strangers like to stop and talk to a bunch of bikers. They always like to know where we are from and where we are headed. But as we always say "Strangers are only friends that we haven't met yet". It was a great day! See you all next time...
Sunday - February 19, 2017
Our beautiful Sunday started out quite foggy and cold. 15 bikes (19 riders) left Bojangles in Cullman and headed to Tannehill Park. Those riding today were: Ronny, Judy, Ed, Jerry, Charlotte, Charlie, Linda, Charles, Sheila, Greg, Mike, JR, Jake, Terry, Bill, Roger, Craig, Donna and David. Seems like at every rest stop we had to shed another layer of cold weather clothes. By the time we reached El Comal Mexican Restaurant we were riding without jackets and gloves, etc. After enjoying a delicious lunch and a surprise birthday greeting we were off to visit Tannehill Park. If you have never been there, it is a beautiful and interesting place to visit, Of course, on the way home we made our customary ice cream stop in Jasper. It's always a great day when you end it with ice cream and a wonderful group of friends! With Winter days like this - I can't wait to see what Spring brings :)
Saturday - January 14, 2017
Don't you just LOVE Alabama weather? Fourteen bikes and 22 riders ventured out this morning to take advantage of a beautiful winter day with a high temperature in the 70's. Those riding today were: Craig, Donna, Greg, Karen, Charles, Sheila, JR, DeAnn, Jerry, Charlotte, Moochie, Cody, Josh, Ron, Rillis, Rodger, Terry, Bill, Ed, Tim, Ronny and Judy. We left Bojangles at 8:00 wearing big coats and riding through fog. It wasn't long before the sun started shining through and it warmed up. We knew that we couldn't make a long ride because the daylight hours are short but we were looking forward to lunch at Local Joe's Restaurant in Alexandria, AL. We had eaten there before and will definitely be back again! What a great day we had with our final stop being at Jack's in Snead for ice cream and good-bye hugs! Hope you enjoy these memories from our day. Sorry I didn't get a picture of the pig having a picnic on the side of the road!
