Chasing Waterfalls September 23 - 25, 2016
Friday morning seven bikes left Bojangles in Cullman. Ed, Terry, Greg, Ronny/Judy, Charles/Linda, Jerry/Charlotte and JR/DeAnn were looking forward to a great three day sight -seeing trip. Our plans were to pick up Moochie, Roger and Josh at Snead but Josh had a little trouble with his bike that needed some attention so he caught up with us later in the day. Our objective the first day was to just get to the Franklin, NC area. On Saturday we were chasing waterfalls! We saw a lot of waterfalls that day and they were all gorgeous! I think we saw a total of six named waterfalls and one on the side of the road as we were riding by. The named waterfalls that we saw were Dry Falls, Connestee Falls, Bridal Veil Falls, High Falls, Triple Falls and Hooker Falls. Some scenes from "The Hunger Games" and "The Last of the Mohicans" were filmed at Triple Falls and Bridal Veil Falls. We ate just a little bit on this trip and then ate more and more and more. We ate at Bigun's BBQ which was "Nearly World Famous" and then another day we ate at Poole's BBQ which has the Pig Hill of Fame and has been featured in Southern Living magazine. We also ate at Fatz, Cedar Mountain Cafe and Juke Box Junction Soda Shoppe where we practiced the old saying "Life is Short, Eat Dessert First" and it was delicious!!! We were excited that Charles and Sheila joined us in Ellijay on the last day of the trip. We have such a wonderful group of awesome friends and as usual, we enjoyed these three days immensely. Our thanks go to Ed for all of the time and energy that he put into planning this trip for us all to enjoy. We know it isn't an easy task and we greatly appreciate it. Hope you enjoy these pictures highlighting our trip.
Headed North on July 13, 2016
Five couples decided to head north hoping to escape the high temperatures. Those couples were: Ronny & Judy, JR & DeAnn, Jerry & Charlotte, Charlie & Linda and Danny & Lynda. We didn't know exactly what we would find but we expected it to be fun. We traveled through 5 states: AL, TN, KY, IN and IL. As usual we saw beautiful scenery, barns, old houses and LOTS of cornfields! On the first day we missed a turn and ended up riding into HOT Nashville. On the bright side - IF we hadn't missed our turn we would have not seen "The Dooky Boys". For the next three days we were dodging thunderstorms. We became experts at putting on and taking off our rainsuits. On Thursday we stopped at several businesses to wait out some storms. We met some very nice people at these businesses. The first time we took shelter at Rough River Veterinary Clinic in Kentucky. While visiting with Coy St. Clair DVM , he told us that he graduated from vet school at Auburn in 1979. (Small world, huh) I heard Indiana's Governor Mike Pence say that he grew up in a house with a cornfield in the backyard. From what we saw in Indiana, I think that there was probably cornfields in the back yard, front yard and side yards of his house!
While in Indiana we also visited the town of Santa Claus where we ate at St. Nick's Restaurant. We also visited Abraham Lincoln's Boyhood Home. On Friday, we were in Illinois where we visited Casey, Illinois (which we were informed is pronounced KAY-ZEE). This town is known for "Big Things in a Small Town". They have lots of things that are bigger than normal and some are listed in the Guinness Book of World Records. The World's Largest things that we saw were: Wind Chimes, Rocking Chair, Knitting Needles & Crochet Hook, Mailbox, Wooden Shoes, Golf Tee and Pitchfork. They also has some large things that aren't in the book: big ear of corn, bird cage, pencil, yard stick and wooden token. After touring this town, we went in search of Moonshine, IL - population 2. We enjoyed moonburgers for lunch. This was a very unique eatery. We rode the Ferry across the Ohio River and we were in Kentucky again. On Saturday we were headed home but made a stop at one of our favorite eating places, The Junkyard Dog in Hohenwald, TN. Even though we had three days of rain and storms (off and on) - it was a great trip! I hope that you enjoy just a sampling of the pictures.

April 29 - May 1, 2016
Our first long trip of the year was scheduled to begin on Friday, April 29, 2016. We had been looking forward to it and anxiously counting the days. Ed told me once that he was "as excited as a kid in a candy store". I don't think that he was the only one! Finally the day arrived and we met at Bojangles in Cullman that morning, all excited and expecting to have three days of fun.
I want to thank Ed for all of the time and research that he put into making this a memorable trip for everyone. Ed did a great job, even though he had to change some of his plans at the last minute because of the weather.
There were eleven bikes with fourteen riders on this trip. The regulars going on this ride were: Ed, Charles, Greg, Moochie, Roger, Terry, Jim, Jerry & Charlotte, Charlie & Linda and Ronny & Judy. Also joining us was our new friend Mike Doss. He is a brave man to go off for three days with this bunch! We hope that he had a great time and will ride with us again.
I took approximately 600 pictures so these are just a small selection showing highlights from the trip. We visited parts of Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee, spending the first night in Blairsville, GA and the second night in Clayton, GA.
On the way home, we had something unusual happen to us. We got seperated and could never manage to re-connect. I guess that's a pretty good record because it is the first time that has happened to us in all of the years that we have been riding together. Everyone made it home safe and sound ---and THAT is all that matters! We are truly blessed!
